Finnish Transport Agency (FTA) was formed in 2010 when Finnish Road, Rail and Maritime Administrations were merged into FTA. It was not possible to use any of the previous document and content management systems in the new agency, so a new solution was needed. FTA chose Alfresco and procured an agile team for the development work. FTA employs over 650 infrastructure and procurement experts who, with numerous external partners and contractors, enable smooth, efficient and safe travel and transport in Finland. Presently, this is a very document and data-intensive process—a lot of documents are being produced, edited and signed. Thus the need for document and content management system which provides tools for collaboration both within the FTA as well as with external users.
